If you don’t have the time to take the dog outside every time the dog would potty at morning or at night, you should know the importance of potty training your dog to make it possible for him to eliminate waste in the right way. And you should know how to potty train your dog as this could be a frustrating procedure if you don't have the proper knowledge.
Potty training of a dog or puppy is a procedure that requires utmost patience, but after the dog has learned to potty in an appropriate place and not indoors, you will notice at the end that it’s really worth all your efforts.
The difficult thing about potty training is to learn the dog signals because every dog has different ways of showing that they have to potty. One of the signs if the dog is going to potty is he’s circling and sniffing about. But not all dogs do the same, especially if you’re not watching them at every moment; you may not notice the changes particularly when the dog grows older as he has access to the different areas inside the house.
Try to treat the dogs with kindness and obedience, show the things that you want to happen with them, don’t yell but instead use all the positive reinforcement.
Potty training of dogs are very important and it requires some good deal of perseverance and it also requires a lot of observations, you need to train your dog inside when he again commits a mistake in the process of eliminating body wastes.
The first thing you need to do to train the dog is when he committed unnecessary things inside your house and tell him “bad dog, you should not potty here” in a soft voice, you should repeat that words three times for the dog to catch up with what you mean and instantly get a piece of cloth or newspaper to wipe his potty and bring it to the certain place where you want him to go or to the appropriate place where he should be doing his stuff. Let your dog smell the potty so that dog could remember the right spot or the appropriate place to potty.
Always watch the dog in the potty spot, monitor and wait for him. When its time for you to take your dog out to the potty spot, always use of the same door.
Usually, the most likely time for the dogs to go to potty is when they wake up and also after they have been fed. If you do the same routine with your dog or puppy over and over again, they will learn faster.
You should do the routine consistently, especially if the dog doesn’t seem to catch the idea yet. Familiarization and persistence is the key. Try to reinforce the training with kindness, love and some treats after the dog has done the process correctly.
Try no to stress out the dog as this would backfire. Dogs can not think clearly if they are stressed out. This will lead to confusion and thus prolonging the learning process. Try not to hit them and shouting must be done to a minimum. We as their masters have the responsibility to teach them what they should do. Having a dog is a huge responsibility. We could either end up with a stinky house or a great friend. The trick is to have the love and patience to teach them how to potty.
